The fight for civil rights first inspired the Free Speech Movement (FSM) which was a college campus sensation and subsequently became greater by opposition to the Vietnam War. In the year 1964, the Free Speech Movement began when the students in Berkeley at the University of California opposed a ban on on-campus political activities.
